Love is not completely random. Research has shown that we tend to fall for:
-people who look like us
-people who look like our fathers

These preferences are part of what is called our 'lovemap'. Our lovemap is developed by several influencing factors.

Dr. Martha McClintock from the University of Chicago did studies that showed that:

    • We are attracted to people who have immune systems that are “complementary” to our own.
      • We determine this subconsciously through the other persons odor

Alberto Mehrabian from the University of California carried out studies that showed that:

    • Small talk is always important in finding a good relationship, but it’s not always the words that matter the most!
      • 55% of whether a person will find you attractive when making small talk is attributed to body language.
      • 38% to the tone and speed of your voice
      • And last and least only 7% is attributed to what is said during the conversation!

Love is Blind

When in a relationship, a person thinks that his or hers is something special compared to other relationships, that nobody can understand this degree of love. When we fall in love with someone we tend to amplify the traits that we like about them and dismiss the traits that we don't like about them. In this sense, love is blind. Shakespeare wrote, "Love is blind, and lovers cannot see the pretty follies that themselves commit".
